Cephalaria gigantea

Cephalaria gigantea, also known as Giant Scabious, is a tall, hardy perennial ideal for adding height and movement to the garden. Reaching up to 8 feet tall, it produces soft, lemon-yellow pincushion flowers on long stems from early summer into autumn. Its open, airy habit allows it to blend well with other plants in borders, meadows, and wildlife-friendly gardens. The blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it both a striking and beneficial addition to planting schemes.

Plant Giant Scabious in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun for best results, though it will tolerate light shade. Water regularly during its first season to help it establish, then only as needed during dry periods. Deadheading spent blooms will encourage further flowering, and stems can be cut back in late autumn or early spring to prepare for the next season’s growth. Once established, Cephalaria gigantea is a low-maintenance garden perennial and will return reliably year after year.
