Chamomile Roman is a low-growing perennial herb cultivated primarily for the delightful, fruity scent of fresh apples released by its feathery foliage when crushed or walked upon. This soothing aroma comes from its essential oils and is traditionally used to create calming herbal teas and infusions. Known to aid sleep and relaxation, although the daisy-like flowers can also be dried for use in potpourri and aromatherapy.
This plant is typically grown as a hardy, evergreen ground cover or a fragrant "lawn" substitute, as its creeping stems form a dense, weed-suppressing mat that tolerates light foot traffic. For the best results and most prolific flowering, plant it in a location with full sun or partial shade. It requires light, free-draining sandy soil, as it dislikes heavy clay and sitting in wet ground, becoming reasonably drought-tolerant once established.
