Cirsium 'Atropurpureum'

Cirsium rivulare Atropurpureum is a perennial plant with an upright habit. This attractive variety of Cirsium plants is commonly known as Plume Thistle. It will produce pincushion-like flowers in Summer that bear a burst of stunning, crimson red colour that contrasts perfectly against its slender, leafless stems. A very desirable addition to the garden, this hardy plant will is also a magnet for birds and bees.

Growing to an ultimate height of 1.2m and ultimate spread of 0.6m, this Cirsium will be the perfect fit for most areas of the garden. They are low maintenance plants that will tolerate shade, although do prefer full sunlight. Plant it in chalky, sandy or loamy soil, water so the soil remains moist and well-drained, whilst also giving it a regular feed.
