Garlic

Garlic is a great addition to any kitchen garden. It is most commonly grown in the ground but also does well in pots and containers. It takes up little space, so is perfect for filling gaps in your vegetable garden or growing around the edge of other crops.

Garlic is used in a multitude of dishes and can be crushed, chopped or sliced to add flavour to cooking. The plant’s green leaves can be cut and added to salads or used as a garnish.

When the leaves turn yellow, the bulbs are ready to harvest. It’s always better to harvest too early than too late, as this helps stop the bulbs opening up in the ground. Allow around 2 weeks for drying out, then cut the stalks from the bulbs. When stored in a cool, dry and dark place, garlic can remain fresh for up to 8 months.
