Gooseberry 'Careless'

Gooseberry Careless is a reliable fruit bush boasting thorny stems, lobed mid-green leaves, and, in spring, insignificant, pink-flushed green flowers. In summer, mature plants produce a heavy yield of edible green berries, which turn transparent as they ripen.

These gooseberries have a fresh, crisp flavour and are perfect for culinary use. They can be enjoyed freshly picked or used to make preserves and desserts. Gooseberries are low in calories and highly nutritious, bursting with fibre, antioxidants, and vitamins. They have a somewhat tart flavour early in the season, sweetening as the fruits ripen.

Gooseberry Careless prefers a sheltered spot in moist but well-draining soil. It tolerates partial shade but produces a heavier crop when planted in full sun. Mulch annually to improve soil fertility and prune twice a year, in winter and summer, to promote fresh new growth.
