Gooseberry 'Spinefree'

Commonly known as the ‘Spineless gooseberry’, this deciduous fruit shrub has been bred to have little to no thorns, making its fruit much more pleasant to pick and removing chance of injury. This Ribes variant bears flavourful red berries that start out sour, then develop a subtle sweetness that softens and balances their initial sharpness as they ripen.

You can expect your Ribes bush to produce a high yield come harvest time - around the beginning of July. Robust, hardy and resistant to powdery mildew, the upright plant will be fantastic as part of any orchard, berry hedge, family garden or even a patio pot. Reaches a maximum of 80-120cm spread and 100-150cm in height, with around 10-30cm of growth each year.
