Lemon Grass
This East Indian Lemon Grass variety is easy to grow and is ideal for adding structure to borders and herb gardens.
Long, strapping foliage is the star of the show, producing a fountain-like architectural effect. The stems have a distinct lemony scent and are a stable of Thai cuisine, adding aromatic flavour to stir-fries, curries, salads, stews, soups, roasts, and even cocktails. Harvest Lemon Grass as required throughout summer, freezing any excess leaves towards to the end of the season for winter use.
Lemon Grass is a tender perennial that can be grown in the ground as an annual or in pots to be brought indoors during the colder months and returned outside from May. It thrives in a sunny, sheltered spot in moist but well-draining soil.
Sow Lemon Grass seeds indoors from January to April. Plant out from late May, once the risk of frost has passed and allow 40cm between plants. Harvest from July to August.
