Limnanthes Douglasii

Limnanthes Douglasii

Limnanthes douglasii is a popular summer annual often known as the Poached Egg Plant due to its bowl-shaped flowers with white petals morphing to golden yellow in the centre. These low-growing flowers bloom from late May to early September and are ideal for enticing bees and butterflies into the garden.

Sow Limnanthes seeds directly into the flowering site between March and May, covering lightly with soil. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out, leaving 15cm between plants. Choose a spot in full sun in moist but well-draining soil. Water these outdoor plants routinely, particularly during dry spells but ensure the soil doesn’t become waterlogged. Remove spent blooms regularly to keep the plant looking its best and prolong the flowering period.
