Lovage Common

Lovage Common

Lovage Common is a towering, architectural herb cultivated primarily for the intense, savoury flavour found in its large, celery-like leaves. This potent taste, which is often described as a concentrated mix of celery, parsley, and yeast extract, is released instantly when the leaves are chopped or torn. It is traditionally used as a powerful seasoning for soups, stews, and stocks—where a little goes a very long way—and the hollow stems can even be candied or used as aromatic straws for Bloody Marys.

This plant is typically grown as a giant, hardy perennial that dies back to the ground in winter before shooting up to heights of two metres or more in spring. It is extremely robust and frost-tolerant, requiring plenty of space at the back of a border. For the best results and most succulent leaves, plant it in a location with full sun or partial shade. It is not drought-tolerant and thrives in deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil that is kept consistently moist through regular watering.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.
