Pomegranate
Punica Granatum is a small deciduous tree / large shrub with a spreading habit that can reach an ultimate height of around 1.5 meters, and a similar spread. Striking scarlet red flowers will emerge in the summer, to then be followed by round edible fruit. Its narrowly oblong green leaves will turn to warm bronze and yellow tints come autumn.
The pomegranate tree is often cultivated for its tasty fruit in warmer climates, but in the UK is typically grown as an ornamental shrub or specimen tree. Please note that the fruit’s outer peel and stems may not be suitable for consumption.
