Rudbeckia 'Tiger SmileyZ'

Also known as black eyed Susan, Rudbeckia SmileyZ Tiger produces a wonderfully long-lasting display of flowers throughout summer and autumn. The blooms feature bright yellow tips, with the inside of the petals taking on a striking red-brown hue. The nectar-rich flower centres are a rich shade of chocolate brown and are popular with bees and other pollinating insects.

Black eyed Susans are easy to grow and maintain, making them a popular choice. They grow well in beds and borders and are also suitable for container gardening, brightening patios and terraces in decorative pots.

Deadheading spent blooms encourages a second flush of flowers and old foliage should be cut back at the end of the season. Other than that, rudbeckia plants generally look after themselves. Although they do need to be watered during particularly dry spells, especially when grown in pots.

Like all herbaceous perennials, rudbeckias die back below ground level in late autumn, around the time of the first frost. They lie dormant during winter and sprout back to life in spring, when they quickly grow back to their full glory.
