Spiraea 'Snowmound'

Spiraea Nipponica 'Snowmound' are low-arching and compact deciduous shrubs that blooms pure white flowers that cloak the plants in mid-summer. Their perfect arching growth habit makes them excellent small ornamental shrubs. Native to Japan, they are truly stunning specimen shrubs.

Snowmound Spiraea feature alternate blue-green, elliptical to narrow ovate leaves that turn to yellowish green in autumn. It blooms clusters of fluffy bowl-shaped white flowers profusely from May to July. Flowers are followed by greenish-brown miniature fruits that are insignificant in size but cover the dark-brown burgundy arching stems in late summer.

These stunning flowering shrubs are also urban pollution tolerant. They will thrive in full sun, planted in moist soil that is regularly well-drained. In fact, they will adapt to a wide range of soils including clay and dry soil. Snowmound will grow to 3 feet tall at maturity and should not be allowed to dry out.

Spiraea plants need occasional maintenance and upkeep. Prune them right after the flowering period to flowers to maintain strong healthy new growth.

These are beautiful and noticeable flowering specimen that can be used in group planting, informal hedging or as borders. Snowmound shrubs will surely attract attention when planted near garden entrance. Their fine texture makes them a striking decorative border shrub.
