Thai Basil

Thai Basil

Thai Basil makes an excellent addition to any herb garden. It can be planted out, grown in a greenhouse or placed inside the home in a container. Thai Basil grows quickly and can be harvested frequently during the summer. In fact, regular harvesting of the tips is beneficial as it helps promote a bushy shape and boosts new growth.

Thai Basil can be harvested to meet your culinary needs, whether that’s a few leaves at a time or the whole plant. This herb is particularly well suited to salads, stir fries, soups and sauces. It also works well with dark meats and stews. This variety is pleasantly fragrant, and a little bit spicier than regular basil. Add it to dishes towards the end of cooking and tear, rather than cut, the leaves for a maximum burst of flavour. When harvesting a little, make sure you take off the top of the plant to maintain its shape.

If you choose to plant Thai Basil outside, ensure the temperature is consistently high enough so it's not subjected to frost overnight, and harden the plant to outdoor temperatures gradually over a period of 2-3 weeks. Water sparingly - be sure to only water the soil, not the foliage, to prevent powdery mildew.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
