Thyme Orange

Orange Thyme is a highly aromatic culinary herb cultivated primarily for the spicy, citrus-peel fragrance found in its slender, grey-green leaves. This unique flavour, which is sweeter and more floral than common thyme with a distinct tang of orange zest, is released powerfully when the foliage is warmed by the sun or crushed. It is traditionally used as a gourmet seasoning for duck, pork, and roasted vegetables, as well as being a surprising and delightful addition to fruit salads and custards.

This plant is typically grown as a low-growing, bushy evergreen sub-shrub that forms a neat mound of fragrant foliage. It is generally hardy, though like many thymes, it dislikes wet winters more than the cold itself. For the best results and the highest concentration of essential oils, plant it in a location with full sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and thrives in poor, rocky, or sandy soil, as it will rot if planted in heavy, waterlogged ground.
