Thyme 'Rasta'

Thyme Rasta is a variety of lemon thyme and boasts aromatic leaves with a distinct citrussy scent. The fragrance lingers in the air whenever the plant is brushed past, making it ideal for a border or a patio container, where the scent is appreciated as people walk past.

This is a low-growing, mound-forming herb plant with tiny rich green leaves that remain in place throughout the year. In summer, small lilac-pink flowers appear. These blooms are long lasting and are irresistible to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Thyme Rasta is also valued for its culinary properties. It is a popular herb for flavouring stews, pies and stuffing dishes and complements chicken and fish well. It is also used to make herbal teas that act as a decongestant.

Rasta thyme is an easy plant to look after, demanding very little maintenance to thrive. It is drought-tolerant once established, so only needs watering during long dry periods. Thyme Rasta grows best in poor, well-draining soil and doesn’t tolerate waterlogging well. Prune hard after flowering to maintain the plant’s size and shape.
