Tulip sylvestris
Also known as Wild Tulip, Tulip sylvestris is an easy to grow bulb producing early spring flowers that are both eye-catching and scented. Flowering from March to April, these Tulips boast a bright golden yellow hue and an open shape with pointed petals adding visual interest. Plant near pathways, patios, or driveways so you can enjoy the lemony scent as you brush past.
The ideal time to plant these 5-6 sized bulbs is from September to October in pots or mid-October – December (after the first frost) in meadows, beds, and borders. Choose a sheltered, sunny spot and dig a hole around 20cm deep in well-draining soil. Position the bulb in the hole with the pointed end facing the sky and backfill with soil, gently firming down as you go, then water in well. Leave 10-15cm between bulbs to afford space for the roots to develop.
