Viola 'Heartthrob'

Viola 'Heartthrob'

Boasting a long blooming season from March right through to October, Viola Heartthrob is the perfect plant for lasting seasonal colour. The heart-shaped leaves are burgundy purple in the centre and variegated with bright lime green around the edges. From early spring, the plant is decorated with masses of small pink flowers, beautifully complementing the interesting foliage.

Heartthrob Viola is an herbaceous perennial that dies back in late autumn and remains dormant underground throughout winter before emerging with fresh new growth the following spring. It is ideal for planting towards the front of beds and borders and is well suited for container gardening.

This is an undemanding garden plant that is relatively simple to grow and care for. It flourishes in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-draining soil and only requires pruning once a year, in late autumn. Cut the plant back hard to ground level ready for the dormant season and to make room for fresh new growth in spring. Viola Heartthrob seeds freely, so if you’d rather the plant didn’t self-seed, be sure to deadhead spent blooms before they go to seed.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
