Blackcurrant 'Baldwin'

Blackcurrant Baldwin, also known as Ribes Nigrum Baldwin, is a variety of blackcurrant fruit plant. Green, deciduous foliage is accompanied in spring by small, white flowers, before fruits begin to ripen throughout the summer months and are ready to harvest in July and August. These blackcurrants are deep purple in colour, with a tart flavour which is milder than other varieties.

Plant these fruit plants in moist, well-drained acidic soil in a sunny spot in the garden, in open soil or a container. A sheltered spot would be well suited because flowers can be susceptible to spring frosts. Blackcurrants are packed with vitamin C and can be eaten fresh from the plant, or they are excellent in jams, pies, pastries, and other sweet dishes!
